What a place from which to photograph! The lighthouse itself is stunning, (see also 127) located on the tip (almost) of the peninsula, affording a magnificent view of the amazing Ningaloo Reef and the Indian Ocean. There are often Humpback Whales and almost always dolphins to be seen from this sensational vantage point. Vlamingh Head Lighthouse began operating in December 1912 as a result of the sinking of the "Mildura". It operated for over 60 years until 1969 when a light was mounted at the US Naval Communications Centre.
